Burgher Houses
The present appearance of burgher houses dates back to the period after the huge fires in the years 1532 and 1559. Their central parts and their exteriors are sometimes influenced by the style of late Gothic but mostly by the Renaissance style. A few houses show features of the Baroque, Rococo and Empire (French Imperial) Styles. Most houses are richly decorated with frescos, sgraffito, and embellished gables. Skoch‘s, Lichvic and Ctibor‘s Houses and houses No. 17, 18 and 19 surround Zizka Square and are certainly worth noticing. There is a number of interesting houses in other parts of the Old Town, for example in Prazska Street (Starek’s House).
